Small diameter implants, also called mini dental implants, are relatively new to dentistry. Mini implants were first used over 30 years ago by Dr. Victor Sendax in New York, when a prominent opera singer broke off a front tooth the day before a performance. Having no other quick solutions, he used a stainless steel screw normally used as a post in root canals and simply screwed it into the bone and attached a plastic tooth to it. It worked, so he decided to patent the procedure.
We have come a long way since then. Both mini implants and
conventional implants are now constructed from medical grade
titanium similar to what is used for hip and knee replacements.
Mini
implants have been researched and used widely now for over 10 years
all over the world. Conventional dental implants now have more than
30 years of data, and many dentists will only use these larger
implants. I believe that now is the time for a paradigm shift, and
have been working with this less expensive alternative now for over
5 years. I have no quarrel with others who are uncomfortable with
mini implants, but I am ready for a change in thinking!
The really exciting news is that now we have developed a new "system" using mini implants, denture teeth, and acrylic resins which allows the immediate placement of a fixed bridge to replace dentures in a very short time - at a cost many can afford. See FAQ for details. Imagine - no more denture adhesives. No more loose and flopping lower denture. No more plastic on the roof of your mouth - taste food like you haven't in years! With the right tooth selection and placement, you can look years younger, and feel better about yourself than you ever thought possible.

This is a picture of the upper bridge. Notice the "dimples" in the lower picture, these are precisely placed to match the heads of the implants in your upper ridge. Cemented into place, this palateless bridge looks and feels as close to natural teeth as possible.
